Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first women priests in Australia

2012 is the 20th anniversary year of the ordination of women as priests. During the year there will be many celebrations right across Australia, there will also be a commemoration of the ordination which didn't happen in Canberra Goulburn and a seminar which looks at the issues in Sydney, where women priests function as "associate ministers" or deacons and no woman has been ordained as a priest. At the same time, in the Diocese of the Murray there is hope that legislation to allow the ordination of women as deacons and priests will finally come before the Synod. In March our third woman will be consecrated as a bishop in Canberra Goulburn.

The logo in the top left hand corner of this page was designed by Ro Yule for MOW Melbourne for the 1992 ordinations. It was used on a large banner in St Paul's Cathedral and appeared on souvenirs such as mugs and scarves. We will be using it as a special anniversary logo during this year, 2012. The logo appears here as it was used on the banner.

The calendar below lists many events which we know about. There are possibly more, if so let us know. We have also included events such as the MOWatch Quiet Day so you can be a part of this time of refreshment wherever you are.
